osCommerce 2.2 doesn't come with any sort of template management system. The Simple Template System (STS) is an easy-to-install module that provides template functionality.
After installing STS, you can change the look of your entire website by editing one file. STS installation only requires that you edit a few files. It is relatively easy to use in basic applications, but has a great deal of functionality that allows you to customize pages in many different ways for more advanced users with more specific needs.
The Simple Template System is surprisingly unobtrusive to an osCommerce installation and is compatibile with many modules. The osCommerce 2.2 templates available on this website were built on the STS 4.5.8 framework.
